Ashlyn Boothby, a junior at Scotts Valley High in California, placed second in her 1,600-meter preliminary heat in 4:49.80 and qualified third overall for the finals at the CIF State Championships at Buchanan High's Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis. Boothby was one of six athletes to produce sub-4:50 efforts in the prelims.
